In most democracies it is a basic right of individuals to hold differing ideologies. Unfortunately, at present this nation teeters over a rigid ideological divide that has two candidates sparing each other over packed houses. Our modern era defines ideology in Wikipedia as a ‘coherent system of ideas that relies on certain assumptions’. It is the assumptions we currently need to work on because if they change so does the system of ideas those assumptions support. When a nation is as divided as ours is right now, the only certainty is that some of our assumptions are now wrong for the time we are in. If a house divided falls, then maybe we could all agree this mutual destruction of our house based on failed assumptions will damage us and the future generations.
The Good Decision Project process is designed to promote the evolution of ideologies. The dynamic nature of the ‘sense of good’ in the Good Decision Project is there to encourage you to keep your assumptions of what is good in your life in play on a field of feedback, questioning, reconsideration and reconstruction. If you do the work to allow your sense of good to evolve, change and remain fresh, so will the basic facts of your life alter themselves to fit your evolving maturity. Frozen ideologies on concrete assumptions are a recipe for conflict and war. May our governing institutions become settings for ideological reconsideration and constant reconstruction. A willingness that allows us to reexamine what we assume to be true and good in our lives will go a long way in reviving the dream of this world-wide experiment in democracy.
