Good, Aging, and a Gem from Kenya

I have come to accept that growing old is just that; one’s body is preparing itself. and hopefully you, to dissolve into the future. Possibly I should say ‘into the present’ but either way the question comes up; how can this be good? I suppose in the same way the Fall season can be good. Nature has no problem with dissolution and reconstitution and in fact has turned it into an art form. Fall is, for many people, the most beautiful season of the year. Leaves turn and fall to the ground but not before the technicolor show of their thinning season. The contours of tree trunks and earth features emerge from under the verdant green shelters of summer.

The United States has just seen a President acknowledge the firm lessons of nature and give in to the collective need of ‘the people’ for a wisdom aligned with the life process we all share. His willingness to be the human being he is has energized a nation. In the Paris Olympics Kenyas Eliude Kepchoge found himself having to drop out of the marathon due to cramps. His illustrious career seems to have finally required him to do what he had never done before; drop out of the beloved marathon. I will close this reflection on wisdom and the nature of things with a quote from this wise man.

You will see me in a different way, maybe giving people motivation, but I will not run… I don’t know what’s next. I need to go back (home), sit down. I need to evolve and feature in other things.”
