Good, Gratitude, and Thanksgiving in Thankless Times

Setting aside a historic era that seems to be fighting gratitude I would like to start with a few words about thanksgiving and gratitude. I grew up in dry-land farming country where irrigation was a critical part of life. As a child I never knew where the ‘mother ditch’ got its water, but on a kind of clock and calendar the water was allowed to run into our fields and ran until the ditch rider blocked it off to irrigate the next neighbors thirsty field. For that reason, and that reason alone, our fields were green patches in a vast buff and sage Wyoming desert.

I have carried that irrigating pattern of focused attention deep into my adult life. I am grateful despite my often times meticulous disassembly of public life in these postings, for this life I live. I am even coping fine with the ever more cranky body in which I wonder around. I have family and friends galore, fine shelter, and food. I am capable of ‘middlin’ drawing’ and painting allowing me to focus on beauty to my hearts content. Reminding myself of how good all this has been, is, and will be, is my Sense of Good irrigating my own unique field of life. I irrigate all these gifts intentionally with comprehensive gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you readers I know and to those I don’t know, but have done us the honor of visiting The Good Decision.
