Good and Dignity, the 7th, Last, and Bannister of All the Next Democracy’s Virtues

You need go no further than the dictionary get a grasp on the radical meaning of dignity but I think I like Wikipedia’s treatment of the word serves best; Dignity is the right of a person to be valued and respected for their own sake, and to be treated ethically.  The seventh proposed virtue for a citizen supporting democracy is: The Care and Preservation of every Citizen’s and Visitor’s Dignity . Until this administration, the United States, as a nation, conservative and liberal, has valued dignity in its leadership, its people, and offered dignity to the visitors of our land. The Good Decision considers the dignity of all human beings the alpha support beam for a truly free democracy.

Dignity is a fail safe indicator of a good society. Greatness used to be reserved for God and God alone. Pick your religion and it is likely at the heart of that religion is a teaching device in the form of a parable, or fable, or origin story that separates human kind from greatness. Humility is one of dignity’s legs, and dignity, it might turn out is humanity’s alternative to the hubris and destruction of ‘Greatness’. Dignity while a personal attribute of demeanor and self-worth, cannot exist in a person unless one’s dignity is extended outward in the treatment all people encountered. Our current models of bullying, strong arming, name calling, insulting and humiliating cannot exist is the same room as dignity

This conclusive missive on the New Democracy and its suggested seven virtues ends with a recommendation that we work in the spirit of MADA; Make America Dignified Again. Dignity is not pompous or rigid. Dignity is generous without being needy. Dignity knows how to express self worth without competing with or demeaning the other. Dignity does not scold or insult. Dignity is courageous. Dignity holds friends in times of turbulence and does not abandon allies in hard times. In the matter of making good decisions, good is a dignified leader with the confidence to spread confidence and create decisions for peace where war and conflict seemed the only outcome. Dignity is free to all classes, races and genders, and can be practiced for the price of discipline and learning. Dignity can bring peace while confronting injustice. Lets try it.
