Good and the Princely Trappings of Fascism

Standing on the podium with a stern smile of self-importance while rank after marching rank of soldiers turn and solute the supreme leader of the failing kingdom has long been a favorite of soda cracker dictators enjoying the hopelessly pompous expensive annual military parade.  Our country has long seen these sad shows as a propping up of the ‘needy leaders’ self esteem at the diminishment of the military’s dignity.  I would caution our current leader against such of debasement of our own country’s military heritage with  a tacky demonstration  supporting ego and hubris. Marching camels and red cyber trucks should be sufficient admiration for year one of a Presidency.

Our nation has always been understated in its confidence and real strength.  This ‘understatement’ of genuine power is part of our national identity.  Our military has in our recent history strived to hold the peace officer’s mind of keeping life safe for the ordinary people who have kept this extraordinary country and culture afloat while they kept war off our soil and communities.  I suspect this is why Clint Eastwood and his movies have always had such appeal.  Not one for bombast and superlatives, his characters and stories always  got the job done.  Shallow, showing off isn’t just new on our block, it is an absolute contradiction of our nation’s character.

Good is making America America again which was an imperfect but aspirational country that was willing to try to meet its high ideals generation after generation balancing the natural, predictable struggles of a democracy   Of course we could only start in our history where we started, but we have progressed inch by inch over these first two century’s. We live in a disingenuous time where Conservatives conserve nothing.  I find it equally odd that the other side of our national  divide has the audacity of call themselves Progressives, because everyone in this conflict wants to think of their work as progressing the work of this nation. But perhaps a vast majority of this country still believes in common we Americans are not insecure bullies or show offs.  Perhaps it is time to find a muffler for this nation’s temporary roaring spasm of sad, dangerously revealing hubris.
