A dog whistle in actual use operates at a pitch just beyond the range of human hearing. If you see a dog respond to a human with a dog whistle and are unaware of the whistle’s uses uses you are amazed at something behavioral coming from nothing discernible. Right now starting, people are using certain phrases that can be pitched in the media to ruin people and even end lives. The political Dog Whistle is the weapon of choice for the administration because these precise manipulations are so profoundly indirect, the legal system feels compelled to ignore the connections. The phrases, insults, and snarky verbal injections are metaphoric Dog Whistles. Right now there are fewer and fewer people living in America who need not worry.
Free Speech is being whittled down by the new “Dog Whistlers”. They have a device that when paired with the new thing called the world wide web can inflict damage without evidence or consequence. We are now seeing fatalities arising from this abuse of factual information.
This administration has unleashed a veritable silent symphony of dog whistles. Short phrases connected to untrue stereotypes have trebled since the recent tragic events. The effect is rapidly setting us up for more violence. This is a slope that can only pick up speed because the threshold for violence is not equipped with brakes.
A Modest Proposal for Good
The Horse Whisperer is the exact opposite force of the Dog Whistler. A Horse Whisperer can quietly calm the massive horse with a peaceful, firm, supportive presence that finds complete synchrony with the horse on the edge of frustration and violence. The horse recognizes integrity in its presence and synchs with that presence. Our nation is on the edge of frustrated violence right now and leadership is fueling that frustration for reasons this writer can only guess at. Those of us working for peace need to become whisperers of the presence of peace to our neighbors and friends. Fueling the rage in either direction will not work and only aggravate. The vote is coming. As a nation we and our children do not directly know the home ground experience of a war. Lets keep it that way. Peace would be good.
