Good and How many Rights Cancel a Wrong?

Hard as it may be for some people to accept, the current administration may have done some good in the world.  If the cease fire holds in Gaza , the hostages come home, and relief comes to the Gazan population, our President may take a well deserved victory lap.  This writer has been very critical of this administration, but if his team has actually brought a peaceful cease fire to Gaza and if life saving aid follows as a result, then credit should go where credit is due.  But the question is; does this humanitarian peace making accomplishment cancel out some or all of the problems I and so many people have with his administration’s domestic policies?  The short answer is no.  A right does not cancel a wrong. The necessary responses to right action and wrong action are fundamentally different.  Morality is not a simple piece of arithmetic where one good action minus fifteen bad actions equals zero. One minus fifteen is minus fourteen, and setting aside the arithmetic, there is a lot of work for this man in the -14 range to do before his atonement and moral penance is paid.

A modest Proposal for Good

The amount of forgiveness this peace deal expects of Israel citizens and the Gazans boggles the mind and heart.  All we can ask of this President is he demand his administration provide his own nation the forgiveness benefits he seems to be promoting in the middle east.  His relentless revenge and retribution of his perceived past personal slights and offenses from US public officials is the same dead end he is working against in the middle east. It is the eye for an eye standard that has murdered tens of thousands of people in the lands for which he apparently is fighting for peace.  His administration’s heartless and violent approach to our immigration issues are in total contrast to this apparent tolerant peace promoting stance on the international scene.  Has he no mercy for his own nation?  Good in this time would be just that; mercy and forgiveness.  Move on Mr President and let the dead bury that dead. It seems your negotiating son has shown you the way. Pope Leo XIV is trying to reach you.  Answer the call .  .  . Please! That would be good.
