To call any group of human beings of any status, race or nationality, gender etc. “garbage” should be an impeachable crime when the lie is told from a position of power. If you follow the news, that term is reported to be tied to the current administration regarding Somali people living in this country. The crime is particularly cowardly because the statement calls up violence and violation against a largely defenseless people without having to own the consequences of the words. This crime is committed while hiding in safety behind a barrier of power and influence at little risk to oneself while orchestrating the near certainty that some how and some where the targeted people will suffer injury and possibly die. That stream of violent invective takes the shape of calling out the fabled hellhounds. The hellhounds dance to the perpetrator’s silent untraceable whistling tune.
In the previous post this writer warned against sustaining rage and being enraged to the point of terminal bitterness. I am certain my anger must show in this posting. The garbage statement enraged me, but over this past year I have found it helpful to discipline myself not fixate on these numerous violations, but to constantly look for the good alternative to the existing bad news. Hence my preservation of mental health is balanced by the simple proposals for good against the daily outrage of current affairs and probable crimes.
A Simple Proposal for Good
Good here is rising up to the standard of courage and protecting the people of Somali. Of course every immigrant group that has ever populated this country has ushered in it’s share of the criminal element. That is a given and it is not the fault legally or morally of the innocent immigrants. The Good Decision will be to never condone the bunching of a nationality, or immigrant group, under a lazy stereotyped, damaging attribute. The statement of persons being ‘garbage’ is to knowingly lie to the American people. Good is understanding the power of the presidency and being responsible to that power. Good is expecting our leaders to be far more mature than our children who must learn these lessons regardlng broad insult in about the fourth grade. Good is voting for maturity, civility, and a posture of love in the leadership in a complicated world. Good is being awake now, in this time, and you don’t have to been in the past tense ‘woke’ (whatever that means).
