The tragic problem with nuclear weapons has been up until recently it has been mutually understood that a nuclear war was a lose-lose response assuring many many civilians would die and no one would win. The Epstein investigation went public as the kind of nuclear response only possible only when politics interfere in the administration of justice. But now that the criminal scandal has gone publicly nuclear, escaping the disciplined containment of a proper legal investigation, it has met the lose-lose criterion of a war. Everyone, it seems, thought the ill advised compromise of the Epstein criminal investigation would be more fun and effective if it was a powerful bomb you could throw in someone else’s back yard. That foolish thinking turned out to be a disaster. Is our President exonerated? No. Does the liberal left look a bit better in the contrasting light? No. Are the victims of these crimes all feeling they are honored and have had proper treatment. Judging from the response they received from the current Attorney General during the Congressional hearings, I have my doubts. What is known now has always been known. Unbridled, undisciplined fame, fortune and power corrupt absolutely.
Setting Epstein aside, we come back to the darkness of the mind of retribution. At the end of the chain of considerations and decisions, for the person who knows only revenge and retribution, we are in line for darkest vision our civilization offers; nuclear war. Our leadership in this moment of history apparently has no idea the street they have chosen is one-way. Let we the people read the route to disaster for ourselves and make a saving detour
A Modest Suggestion for Good
This writer has no easy suggestions for resetting the broken personality fueled by anger and revenge other than hide the sharp knives and firing pins of any lethal weapons within easy reach. The task of healing for the aging rage-aholic is hard, uncertain, and long term. If the patient is a powerful politician, cut access to starting impulsive wars and protect the house resources necessary for turning garden variety civil unrest into violent civil war. When the next elections come around, be more careful about the mental health of your chosen representatives. Even though everything feels very different in America today, not that much has changed except one party accidentally relinquished power and the other party locked it all down for their own private gain. We cannot accept it is naive to believe in remedies of democracy, but realistic to accept democracy is hard to practice. In truth, to restore this democracy there is no other nonviolent route back home than using the residuals of our current democracy given the cast of characters. Practice your political tradition with passion and dedication. That would be good.
