True hatred such as anti-semitism can’t work unless the context is built and preconditions are met. One can set up certain pre-conditions and simply walk away as the actions of planted hatred roll out their grim statistics at arms length. Nothing looks intentional that way. If you set up the right conditions you can even superficially oppose this horrible mindset of fatal prejudice. For example when hatred takes the form of antisemitism the New York Times Editorial Board quoted Conor Cruise O’Brien, an Irish writer and politician, … “Antisemitism is a light sleeper.” It tends to re-emerge when societies become polarized and people go looking for somebody to blame”.
Any horrific form of hatred can be identified by the tools that make it possible. Blatant hatred, stereotyping groups of people, divisive language, polarizing policies, the casual meme of insult, and false innocence are hatred’s pipe wrenches. Legitimate concern about factual genocide is not antisemitism by any stretch but rather a political and moral concern. However the deceptive use of genocide to further political aims is yet another arms length tool in the tool box of hatred and antisemitism.
A proposal for your consideration:
This project proposes Good is recognizing if you take on the tools you take on the problem. We must strive for unity around a majority morality that does not tolerate the hateful tools of group prejudice. We are heading into a dark place. Confront with care the knee jerk of hatred and hatred’s tools. The first step is to hate no one. Hatred cannot cure itself and has never truly solved anything. Only you can decide against hatred.
