Many of us, including myself are alive on this planet today thanks to the work of science.  Never in this nation’s history has science ever been anything but the frontier of human knowledge.  Never that is until this administration that has demonstrated a pathological fear of inconvenient truth and science. Bad news for this administration is taken out and shot in the figurative execution grounds supported by fake law and a fawning news cycle.  This weeks targeted conveyors of inconvenient truth are scientists who work in the field of microbiology and infectious disease. As expected from this administration, the charges against a scientist in Montana are grounded in convenient conspiracy theories and paperwork errors. The prosecution of the scientist Vincent Munster, appears to clearly be a desperate grab for a few votes from the part of the electorate I would simply call the cult. 

During the Covid epidemic I spoke with a woman who denied the disease of Covid and called it a bad flu.  I pointed out that never in my years had I ever seen so many refrigerated vehicles backed up to the back doors of hospitals keeping the bodies of recently deceased cold until the funeral parlors and embalmers could catch up.  She shrugged me off saying I was deluded by mainstream media. Being close to the medical services of our community by marriage, I just said we will have to disagree.  Committed ignorance is impervious to persuasion.  Dr.  Fauci may have not been perfect in all his predictions, but his work saved thousands upon thousands of lives.  Fear is what is driving these prosecutions of scientists and scientific research from the grass roots.  The man who prescribed drinking bleach as a covid treatment is trying to overturn decades of scientific research that has saved millions upon millions of life.

Urgent Proposal for Good

Face the truth.  You will find that fear of science is instilled by bad movies, targeted propaganda, and political cults.  Before the internet we all knew that if a family member was caught up in a cult, the intervention and subsequent rehabilitation was going to be hard.  Now in the the midst of the internet, a cult has gone viral. Science cannot be deliberately denied. Science has no pretensions of being completed or documenting ultimate truth.  The scientific method is designed to avoid such arrogance. Only real world evidence and feedback can track truth.  Our nation was once great, not because we were perfectly in line with truth, but because we had the humility to chase truth knowing we as humans were error prone given our often impatient, hungry, human minds. Good is witnessing life with the courage to take in the raw truth.  Witnessing is a spiritual discipline and to ignore the witness of the real world’s feedback for the believer of any faith is a serious sin. Step one is to take the handcuffs off science and have the endurance to witness truth where ever truth shows his or her hand.  That would be good.
