The Executive Order is not a birch paddle one can use to spank Nations.  Now our volatile President thinks he can change the names of our beloved Great Lakes with a piece of paper because he is miffed.  Maybe if climate change grinds on he will change the name of Planet Earth itself to Planet America or if that doesn’t quite sooth the raging heart, name the whole Planet after himself.  

Americans are not now and never have been good at being bossed around. Call it an Executive Order or a Decree from the Greatest-Ever-On-High, in this country we live in a democracy mindset. Today and on down the road I suspect we will call Lake Ontario, Lake Ontario.  We share its headwaters and glory with our Canadian friends up north.  No single person can demand we steal a name and make enemies of valued friends and partners.  Besides there are only about 10,000,000 other more important things to worry about.

Modest Proposal for Good

This nation cannot allow itself to be guided by childish tantrums and thin skin.   We have massive problems in climate, social services, budget, infrastructure, inflation and so on.   A little focus on those issues would help a lot. The Gulf of Mexico is the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario is Lake Ontario, and the Kennedy Center is the Kennedy Center.  If this president ever fully accomplishes something worth noting and celebrating We the People will choose his honors.  We will give him his due when he earns it like it happens for every other American who earns the accolades from history.  That has been, is, and always will be good.
