Our elected President has declared when asked about the limits to his power that his limits were “my own morality”.  Perhaps clever, but it turned out to be an accidental statement of truth rare as that may be from that source.  The flaw of course is that one person does not make a morality.  Morality is a connected social and spiritual process.  Morality arises out of community. When a single individual appropriates a nations morality one can only have a dictatorship. Our hungry, ambitious, leader confessed he has no morality and what he says is ‘good’ will have to do for “We the People”.

When, in a national convergence of inflation, wars, a paralyzed Congress, tectonic economic shifts, and staggering lethal climate change a President declares a multibillion dollar Ballroom a necessity you have to think of the period just before the French Revolution.  We have approved that Ballroom from the highest court which greases the slide down into something no descendant of the American Revolution should recognize or approve.  A Ballroom is not ‘good’ in a time of crisis and we are living in such a time.  Our man who outwardly admits no morality and a dictator’s sense of good has a glitter ball spinning in his head.

Urgent Proposal for Good

Yes, we need serious people in power capable of making seriously good, complex decisions.  The nature of the morality we need to recover immediately is the morality of plurality. E Pluribus Unum is the header for the morality of democracy and that same morality now applies to Planet Earth.  The people of Nepal have had a early horrifying and tragic taste of the apocalyptic future this planet has in store if human kind doesn’t help reverse the damage it has done to health of this blue globe we call home. There is no room or time for the amorality of this administration. Vote and help everyone you know (and don’t know) to get to the polls this fall. We are in so much trouble, but good decisions could still move this potentially powerful nation and what is left of its resources back on a moral course in line with the plurality of nature. We must understand that if we burn this planet to the ground, there is no wealth sufficient for any individual to survive. In that understanding perhaps we can find a consensus.  That would be good.
