Good and the Price of your Soul

The good news is that if you want to sell your soul, at least the president and his party have put a real price tag on it.  For tens of thousands of years the human soul has evaded the commodification of the soul’s value.  Those who presumably sold their souls to the devil became the fodder for magnificent tragic operas. But God bless us, our politicos have bought the rights to offer you a clear unequivocal price for your own one precious soul along with your one precious vote.  Your soul as an American is  is worth to them a sum total of $5,000.  You can buy yourself a really good refrigerator in exchange for ridding yourself of God, conscience, patriotism and all those trappings that confuse your Sunday morning.

Of course, your vote is not entirely your soul, but the stakes in terms of love, justice and democracy right now will be the sum total of our votes in the midterms.  The elections will establish this nation’s level of spiritual wholeness.  These people have offered to buy the nation’s soul for certain.  How shallow and desperate can one political party get? Well, that is already established.  But how can we respond to this vote buying scheme?  Keep in mind he is clawing the cash back from your future adult children and grandchildren to pay this off if he is allowed to run the political grift.

An Modest Proposal for Good

Call your congressional representatives and let them know that these people need to keep their hands off your offspring’s future wellbeing.  Let your representatives know that your vote is not for sale.  Your integrity is not just another commodity.  The United States is not for sale! Let them know how offensive this is in no uncertain terms.  Keep your soul, instruct, and scold the errant children of DC like any good parent would.  Let them know you will be voting for mature, articulate, service based adults this year. That would be good.
