Good, Authentic Patriotism, and Words Better Than Mine. Guest Philosopher: Hannah Arendt

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exist.”

― Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism

“The aim of totalitarian education has never been to instill convictions but to destroy the capacity to form any.”

― Hannah Arendt

Reflections from the Good Decision

Democracy is the truth of America, and freedom is that truth’s servant.  We are not free to violently dismantle the Constitution which is our national truth’s infrastructure. Good, in this context, is the conviction that America is a democracy and genuine patriotism will not accept lies over truth. Go to church, meditation, or contemplation today to find, once again, the convictions of your national truth as well as your own soul’s truth.  We are in trouble.  We need people who can face reality and the spiritual lessons of the day.
