Good, Simple Good Fun and Street Healing

Someone told me recently that I missed my calling and should have been a writer.   The comment confused me.  I have only been 75 years old for less than a year and am already writing.  “What is the rush:?” I ask myself.

Have fun thinking that opening paragraph through. Sometimes it is ok to have the odd hole in one’s thinking process. I am sure I will have a few glitches in the thought train when and if I ever get old. If you can’t find fun in the real-time operating world this year make it a resolution to carry a spare sense of  fun in your mind because the world will need it.  Genuine fun, steeped in kindness, shows through your eyes and even strangers on the street will pick up on your secret, sacred irreverence.  After passing your presence, even on the rushed city sidewalk, they will often smile mostly to themselves wondering why and how they have been so subtly blessed.  I have tested this transmission process in Denver, Chicago, and Santa Fe NM recently and sure enough subtle fun can frequently cut right through the default faces of the big city streets. Santa Fe didn’t need much help.  Right now so many of the sorrowful default faces of city streets are predictive of an increasing mental health crisis.  The best good therapeutic work is very often indirect and as easy as a genuine, sincere smile broadcasted to a stranger in need.  The transmission of the easy whimsical presence is a simple no cost good decision for anyone to make.

Meanwhile, The Good Decision will persist in 2025 as a website pondering the complications, ambiguity, beauty and nuance of this wonderful, confusing word ‘good’.  We will occasionally have some fun too.  Happy New Year and find that balance point between resistance, integrity and justice evened out with one of the world’s most subversive nonviolent change agents; kind humor and simple fun.
