The midterms are coming up and once again it looks like the fabric of unity is ripping apart under the stress to the political binaries.  The nation is in halves and the parties are themselves breaking again into halves. Unity is in human terms a radical commitment. Infants are introduced to life with one heart of natural unity and from which they learn to divide their world between things like womb/ocean-not ocean, mother-not mother, father-not father, nurturer, not nurturer.  Tears or smiles come without effort because the mind is still forming. But nuance soon begins to complicate the infant’s center, and it becomes mother, father, fascinating entertainer, brother, sister, dog, cat etc. This is why I refuse to fully condemn our current leadership because they all were once children running the infant binaries.  Their problem is they, now older adults, want to regress into infant binaries using this nation’s power to divide the  world sans nuance and harvest the wealth That kind of thinking paired with unbridled power is what I condemn. Democracy and the United States cannot survive without nuance and the intelligence of adults.

Travel the distance of political spectrum between right wing and left wing, Democratic Socialist and Centrist, Republican and MAGA cult, and you may never have reached that space called radical no matter which extreme direction your political views migrate or how hard you grasp on to them.  If you don’t dive deep into the pool of human nuance you are only an aged adult in the mind of very young child. The infant and child maintain a direct line to the heart, but you can’t because, for as an adult, you need a mental map to be radical.

Modest Proposal for Good

Set aside your red white and blue flag embroidered underwear, swim suit, or umbrella and think about your community.  Set aside your Pete Seeger,  Bob Marley,  and “What’s going on?” anthem and get to know your own city block in person.  In your block of living stories you will learn necessary nuance.  Beneath the meme’s and stereotypes of today’s politics-for-children is a nation of plurality waiting for an adult to emerge to unite.  That would be both radical and good for the heart of love is radical.  Radical is that child you see on the bus, train or plane street or city block.  Show them the way to being a radical heart and mind driven adult. That would be very good.
