Good and the Short Standing Tall: the Death of Real Criticism in the USA

Can you imagine someone so “in need” that before they walk into a stand of trees, they have all the trees trimmed to a foot below their height in order that they may be the tallest entity in the forest. Of course that is ridiculous. No one could be that insecure or have the resources to trim the world down to their height.  That is until now.   Our leadership in America’s government are using the ax of the executive power to trim down the stature anyone who even shows any signs of exceeding their own self inflation. The hurling of insults, put downs, and humiliations, efforts as punishment for public service, as any healthy person knows, is a sign of grandiosity without self confidence or competence.

People who decide out of that level of low self-confidence are very dangerous in leadership because one of the great injuries to human beings is to experience being consciously diminished.  Imagine all the resources our current leadership has lost and wasted for the USA treating experience, knowledge and confidence as a threat to their own standing.  Expertise is fleeing the United States in response to a real concern that their power through wisdom and effectiveness could attract the attention that is cutting America down to below their level.  Right now there is a price of retribution attached to competence and intelligence. The middle school name calling from the highest level of government couldn’t be clearer in its message that the bar has dropped to accommodate the undisciplined and uncertain.

Modest Proposal for Good

Name calling is destructive and a reliable indicator of a lack of self-esteem and confidence in the source.  Real adult criticism well founded in informed valid truthful logic is very important in an election as well as administration.  The first victim of this past two years has been the well articulated clear criticism of complex proposals. Vote for people who are capable of intelligent criticism yet have no need to resort to the personal diminishment of the person or people being criticized. Need this writer say again, vote for adults and not for the candidates who behave like the children you asked your own children to avoid in grade school. That would be good.
