A genius poet can wrap up an entire era in a few lines, and instruct a whole nation in a single stanza.
Excerpted from a poem entitled In Praise of Coldness by Jane Hirshfield
. . . Neither a person entirely broken
nor one entirely whole can speak.
In sorrow pretend to be fearless. In happiness tremble.”
Reflective Words from The Good Decision
This writer pretends to be fearless and trembles with happiness only when trembling authentically happens. Why does our society talk so much only to convey so little? Not because we are pretentious or broken. Maybe it is because somehow our leaders are shattered, and in the shattering and chattering, we are just trying to pull it together for the next conveyance of what really matters. It is Sunday. Be quiet and wait for the happiness that comes with silence and the authentic tremble. None of us are completely whole so it might just take some minutes to realize we are, on the whole, whole enough, to end the shattering and fruitless chattering. Wouldn’t that be good?
