From Aesop, the Greek story teller, to Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount to Little Red Riding Hood we have been warned about wolves with ill intent disguised as sheep or in the case of Little Red, disguised as Grandma. Immoral intent disguised as helpful sheep hide aberrant ways until their relentless human nature burns through the gentle disguise and the truth is told.  For instance in this last midterm Republican Convention our president recited before the general audience this pledge to non other than himself. How can one interpret this other than a permission to break the electoral laws of the nation. Whatever you may have thought of this man, the wolf in presidents clothing has just roared his permission to break the election laws. This quote from the President is taken from an article covering the convention in the NYT.

“Please raise your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States. That loves us so much he can’t even breathe. That I will go out with my family, my friends, I’ll do it any way — I don’t care if I’m registered or not, I’m going to try to cheat like hell like they do.”

The “they” who cheat are apparently anyone who doesn’t vote for him.  This is a shot into the body of democracy.  Nothing stands more sacred to the inherent structure of a democracy than the individual’s vote and the laws the guard that rite of common person agency.

Urgent Proposal for Good

We apparently have gotten used to what we shouldn’t.  The statement above, if made by a member of the opposing party or any citizen of the United States, would trigger an investigation or arrest.  The voting booth in a democracy is like the church of any religion.  Until this president, the ritual of voting has been held carefully held near sacred trust in this democracy. The ‘why’ of it has been to prevent violence in the transfer of power from one individual to the next. The meritless rant absent of any significant evidence of corrupted elections all track back to this single man who as a presidential candidate lost a close election.  History will verify that uncontested fact that he lost.  Let history also record the resilience of our electoral laws as we reach out to extend the integrity of the United States in the next two corrective election cycles. Vote and keep the polls safe. Remember sheep don’t roar. That would be very good.
