A decision may actually be a good decision, but any choice may also turn out to be a bad decision. Whatever the quality of the decision we make next, any decision is always about the future. One can say many things about the future, but future is invariably the second leg of the present For this writer, the crisis for our democracy is about the future. I recently watched briefly a network obviously more in sync with my own views. The result was surprisingly discouraging in that I watched intelligent people speaking cheerfully about the clear evidence of a failed administration. Close to 60% of America already knows this administration is crashing but for this project the real question is: What is next for the American citizen. There is nothing to cheer or be cheerful about in a failed administration
Our president is providing an easy, indulgent ,distraction for both progressive and conservative. He is a carnival barker gifted in slight of hand. For the conservative you are invited to adore him at a religious level, and for the liberal he invites you to hate him at a hellish level. Both ways, our carefully divided nation is never invited to join in solving our problems. That leaves this administration free to rake in for private purposes the public assets undefended in a paralyzed government. No, the only serious real question is what is next.
Modest Proposal for Good
If we should vote in concert for a good Congress in this next mid-term election we can mark a check by the word progress and feel good. That said the celebration will be short for we will only have gained a month two. A lot of toxic seed has been planted and can’t be unplanted. The Executive has been the author of this crisis. The Supreme Court seems to have designed the infrastructure of power to that Executive to suspend the democracy and what Congress thinks is now window dressing. Good for the two years after the midterms will be the people of this democracy might be to wake up the law of the land; Congress. Justice is enforcement, but we the people, through Congress are the law. No matter the outcome of this November election the battle will extend minimally for the next two years. Pace yourselves to stay healthy, balanced, nonviolent but powerful. That will be good, perhaps not for some of our lifetimes, but for the future? Yes, that will be good for the critical truth of future.
