The Harry Potter days of magical resolution are over. The best the winning party can hope for is to win the right to offer America a vision of something for which they are satisfied to work for and sacrifice. ‘Magical thinking’ is that the next government will solve today’s problems in the next term of office. They can’t and won’t. This administration we have today had to learn the hard way and half way through the President’s term the penny still hasn’t dropped. We the People can stabilize our herky-jerky, paralyzed, cult entranced government trapped in a doom loop of corruption. We can do it even with the painful understanding that our recent errors will have cost us a decade of recovery work. Despite that hard truth we still have the resources to recover but to do so requires us to understand the impact of global politics which we seem to have just discovered. Truth is we live with a set of global politics we do not and will never control. Hard lessons are hard to take in.
Probable path to Good
We will need a Congress with the courage to cross aisles working on hard headed, truth based, science supported solutions for the next half century. Whatever your leaning politically, if you believe that your party can do it alone and show the world, you are wrong. We need, not the royal “We” of this president, but the democratic “We” of democracy’s people to demand Congress represent the whole of our plural voices. We have shown the world in the past that messy as it can be, we can do it. So vote for democracy and we can do it again. That would be good.
