Good Fear and Authentic Courage

Our President has called Pope Leo IV soft. A man who wants to convert the White House to a gilded bunker ball room and build a massive Arch of Something or Other to serve as a legacy tower to enhance his security has been critical of the courage of an unarmed priest who served his people without a body guard while vulnerable in a terrorist plagued time and community . We have a problem here.

We have a Secretary of Defense (not War) who wants a “high T” army to “break the teeth” of the enemy. Again we have someone who has yet to find the courage to firmly confront his own Congress with anything but oddly constructed Old Testament platitudes to support his contradictory New Testament aspirations of a national war like religion. When did fear become our Nation’s new Religion?

Modest Proposal for Good

Courage is lived and expresses itself between the words, and not through the words. What takes courage is to subject oneself and body to a consciously known harmful path to achieve good. Courageous men and women do that with their mouths shut speaking only to shed light on goodness. We have verbose versions of fear leading us these days that do not represent the American tradition. That has to change so authentic courage leads us again. Vote deeper than words toward the realms of courage. That will be good.
