“One lives a good life through making good decisions and continually going to that place in you where you find your good.”

—The Good Decision Project

The Next Democracy

Given the critical times we are in this Project has proposed a very short, succinct body of language to re-introduce the idea of democracy to the 21st Century. We no longer can afford to compete for points on the scale of mutual hatred. We must find language that addresses the critical stress point of democracy in our world today. • Good, Discovering Reality, Justice, and Imagination

This country could only end up in this set of circumstances through the lazy neglect of imagination.  The working phrase is: “Imagine how you would feel if . . . . . .?”.   The alternative to imagination, particularly in deciding… Continue reading

  • Good, Warfare, the New Lawfare, and Obscene Private Wealth

I am aware that a vast majority of Americans could no more financially survive a protracted lawsuit than they could physically survive a bomb being dropped on their house in the middle of the night.  There are, however, a growing… Continue reading

  • Good and When Moral Distress becomes Fatal

In this writers home state 21,000 people could lose medicaid services thanks to the new federal legislation. It can’t be that different in other states. Forget red state and blue state and lets just think in terms of dead or… Continue reading

  • Good, Waiting for Godot , and Unlikely Strangers

Somehow Samual Becket’s Play “Waiting for Godot” keeps percolating up as I watch the inevitability of this political season unfold. Whatever one thinks of our current President, the nation such as it is, and its Supreme Court, have conceded the… Continue reading

  • Good and When a Detention Facility becomes a Concentration Camp

Detention has become a euphemism for concentration.  Facility has become a euphemism for prison camp.  With a goal of 3,000 immigration arrests a day this administration is, intentionally or not, setting, the stage for concentration camps in America.  This is… Continue reading

  • Good, Faux and True Authenticity, and Survival

One of our political parties is looking at the attribute ‘authenticity’ to strengthen their political approach. The challenge with authenticity is that it is nearly impossible to fake or predict. Our current leader is probably where he is because he… Continue reading

  • Good , Grief, Funerals in Minnesota, and the Art of Rage

This was written a few days before the assassinations in Minnesota so I will post it lest we forget too soon.  Two ways to accomplish change:  create a compelling vision with a plan, or simply engineer mass rage.  The second… Continue reading

  • Good, Empathy, Conscience and War

This writer scans the news for actual facts and waits for the information to either contradict or confirm existing versions of what might be true. This morning of course, the headlines screamed WAR. And below that prospect were the news… Continue reading

  • Good and What is Deeper than Opportunism?

Capitalism and the American system take heavy criticism for being opportunistic.  Some of that criticism is profoundly merited and some slightly hypocritical.  We all tend to love opportunity when it serves our cause.   The legal system is being exploited and… Continue reading

  • Good, War, and the Perils of Peace

To predict the likelihood of war perhaps we should evaluate the perils of peace. War can be used as a shield from certain legal liabilities for indicted or convicted leaders. This perverse system of incentives is probably why it would… Continue reading
