“One lives a good life through making good decisions and continually going to that place in you where you find your good.”

—The Good Decision Project

The Next Democracy

Given the critical times we are in this Project has proposed a very short, succinct body of language to re-introduce the idea of democracy to the 21st Century. We no longer can afford to compete for points on the scale of mutual hatred. We must find language that addresses the critical stress point of democracy in our world today. • Good, The “We of Us”, and The Perilous Course of Administration

The death of Brian Thompson has bothered me more deeply than I could have anticipated. The philosopher Hannah Arendt wrote, administering human affairs sails perilously close to evil.  As a former administrator this writer knows exactly what she was talking… Continue reading

  • Good, and Falling through the Cracks

Where does one go when one “falls through the cracks”. This expression has been used by caregivers for decades to describe what happens to their children or elderly parents when for some reason the needs of their charges are not… Continue reading

  • Good, Star Wars and being ‘Woke’

Star Wars has provided an oddly prophetic theme in entertainment and science fiction which may account for both its own lasting popularity and a basis for the current confusing question of the day: “why don’t we feel like the heroes… Continue reading

  • Good, Human Rights, Aspiration and Grit

Be it Civil Rights, Women’s Rights, or Disability Rights, at their outset, all of those movements had little to no federal support, legal basis, or even local support. The true broad scope of movements of human rights seem always to… Continue reading

  • Good, Pope Francis and the Price of Caring

A lot will be written and said in the next few months about Pope Francis, his life, death, and work. In this writer’s less expansive world I was drawn to this man and his message simply because he seemed to… Continue reading

  • Good, Easter and all the Stories

  • Good, Nonviolence, Pacifism, and Servant Leadership

Strangely enough there is nothing passive about nonviolence or pacifism.  Nonviolence and pacifism are hard choices that must be actively engaged against the mainstream.  Nonviolence itself is a decision that counters a deeply embedded instinct to respond violently to insult… Continue reading

  • Good Grief, Good Guilt, and Good Friday

Tomorrow is called Good Friday in the tradition I was raised.  As I child I was exposed repeatedly to the Catholic “Stations of the Cross” which, for those of other persuasions, is a ritualized service commemorating the Passion of Jesus. … Continue reading

  • Good, Law and Order, and Simplicity as Paradox

How can one achieve simplicity in a complex society? Is it a choice to keep it simple or is it an obligation to wade into the complexities of the human drama. Each reader will have their opinion as does this… Continue reading

  • Good, Us and Them, and When One is too Many

When did it happen that a person in the United States can be arrested, no charges presented, and disappear unrepresented and disconnected from friends, family or community. Such behavior was once the exclusive domain of underdeveloped country’s possessed by ruthless… Continue reading
