“One lives a good life through making good decisions and continually going to that place in you where you find your good.”

—The Good Decision Project

The Next Democracy

Given the critical times we are in this Project has proposed a very short, succinct body of language to re-introduce the idea of democracy to the 21st Century. We no longer can afford to compete for points on the scale of mutual hatred. We must find language that addresses the critical stress point of democracy in our world today. • Good, Right, and Beyond the Vote

My decision for the top of the ticket for this election is made and it isn’t even a close call. Presumably I should settle back into the easy chair of identity and marinate in a quiet consoling rage as I… Continue reading

  • Good, Identity, and Nationalism

Senator Christopher Murphy of Connecticut was recently highlighted In a New York Times article because he has been warning the right and the left leaning portions of both parties that there may be a deeper component to the current American… Continue reading

  • Good, Extremism, and the Radical

The frequent blending of the terms extremist and radical makes no sense to me.  I do not believe an extremist of any persuasion can be radical.  To take an extreme view implies an equally extreme reduction of the scope of… Continue reading

  • Good, Character, Faith and Charisma

Good and charisma should fit together like sock and shoe but somehow it isn’t that simple.  Charisma can mean charming, persuasive and compelling in the purely secular sense, but it is also a very close relative to charisma’s first meaning… Continue reading

  • Good, Working, and Waiting for Godot

This is a summer of waiting for Godot.  There is amongst the participants of this democracy a certain tension in the air.  We are in an election year where the narrative has set our worlds on edge and as the… Continue reading

  • Good, Aging, and a Gem from Kenya

I have come to accept that growing old is just that; one’s body is preparing itself. and hopefully you, to dissolve into the future. Possibly I should say ‘into the present’ but either way the question comes up; how can… Continue reading

  • Good, frozen assumptions, and lockdown ideology

In most democracies it is a basic right of individuals to hold differing ideologies. Unfortunately, at present this nation teeters over a rigid ideological divide that has two candidates sparing each other over packed houses. Our modern era defines ideology… Continue reading

  • Good and Transactional Morality

Regardless of your tradition, many prophets and wisdom teachers have pointed out, to their peril, that just because you follow the rules you have not necessarily discharged your obligations to the spirit of the God or wisdom teacher. Moral rules… Continue reading

  • Good and the Elephant

We are frequently warned about the ‘elephant in the room’. You can be sitting in your living room and someone wisely points out that ‘we are avoiding the elephant in the room’ suggesting if we master the elephant maybe the… Continue reading

  • Good, People, War, Crime

If you really want a prolonged war the first thing to do is to reduce people into categories. Create a box that looks like an egg crate and line those people up in neat abstract rows. Crimes of passion in… Continue reading
